paws to remember

The University of Doglando is proud to provide our dog loving clients with an opportunity to honor their deceased beloved pet in a special way.

A Dog's Purpose:

Being a verterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten year old Irish Wolfhound named Belker.  The dog's owners Ron, Lisa and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker and there were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we could not do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia prodecure for the old dog in their home.  As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six year old Shane to observe the procedure.  They felt as though Shane might learn something from this experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belketer's family surrounded him.  Shane seemed so calm, while petting  the old dog for the first time.  I wondered if he even understood what was going on.  Within a few minutes, Belker slipped away peacefully.

We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives ar so much shorter than human lives.  Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up and said "I know why."

He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life---- like loving everybody all the time, and being nice....." continued, " well, dogs already know how to do that so they don't have to stay as long."

Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak Kindly, Remember if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like: When loved ones come home, always run to greet them, allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy, take naps, stretch before rising, run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people watch you, avoid biting when a simple growl will do, on warm days stop to lie on your back on the grass, on hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree, when you are happy dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk, be loyal, never pretend to be something you're not, if what you want lies buried, dig till you find it, when someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.  Enjoy every moment of every day!

Ziggy

Ziggy was my buddy for 17 years. We shared a lot of great memories together so I still miss him a lot. I stayed by his side during his last moments of life as he slipped away peacefully and I am so glad I was there for him then. I know he is happily romping about in "doggie heaven" now and that brings me peace.

McAllister

To my loving companion of the last eight years (though it seems I've been with you my whole life).  I cant begin to express how much I miss you.  You was a part of everything I did.  I'm lost without you....

Scooby Doo

Doo was the sweetest dog I have ever lived with.  He only wanted to be near me and to be touched or petted.  He loved people, his brother, he loved to eat, but for some unknown reason, he mostly just loved me.  I was so lucky to have him in my life for nine years.  Scooby's sweet temperament was evident in the way he always wagged his tail - and when I talked to him, he wagged his whole body.  I miss you so much Scooby, you were my perfect boy.

Sassy

At a young age of 11 years, our dear girlie "Sassy" left us on Dec 22/08 from a hemangiosarcoma tumor on her spleen. Our home and hearts are empty, but our memories will live on forever. We miss you Sassy!!

On January 28th 2009 at 3:30pm, the Golden Gates of Doggy Heaven were opened up for my little angel, Bruiser Woods.  Bruiser ran through the gates to our Lord's welcoming embrace and licked God's face.  Although my heart is broken, I know my little angel will live forever in the presence of our Lord... and in my heart.

You will be missed and forever remembered.

We love you Bruiser Woods!
